Scarborough Fights back with Seagull Proof Bin Bags

25th May 2016 By

problem

The Streets of Scarborough are set to look tidier this Summer thanks to an innovative plan by the Council to use more rigid bin bags that seagulls wont be able to bite through to get to any unwanted rubbish AKA dinner.

Cllr Andrew Jenkinson said: “This the start of a long campaign to basically win the streets back. There is so much damaged caused by them.

“I am delighted that these sacks will soon be in use in our borough.

“While for some people no visit to the seaside would be complete without seeing and hearing seagulls, for others they are a genuine nuisance and I think anything we can legally do to reduce the problems they cause can only be a good thing for all concerned.”

The seaside council have invested around £10,000 in the new bin bags which are abot to be delivered to local residents and so far they have been met with approval from people who are dog sick of having their rubbish spilled across the streets by overzealous seagulls trying to find a snack.

Good luck to all involved in this great scheme!

Picture the scene..

Your walking down the red carpet at Cannes showcasing your new film which has been months in the making, your pristine Channel outfit is bound to be a best seller and you have the man of your dreams on your arm, what can go wrong? High above in the skies a flock of seagulls spot the commotion on a typical quiet early Summer afternoon and think food..

Swopping down to take a closer look at the action the seagulls aren’t bothered by the fact their prey are millionaires or that the nations top media gurus are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the top guns in the celeb World, all these fearsome feathers creatures are bothered about is filling their stomachs!

Of course in celeb World where theres a problem that may interfere with getting the most coveted images of the hottest stars in all their designer gear you can guarantee there will be some PA in the background frantically scouring the net looking for a solution.

The solution found in 2016 comes in the form of an evil looking hawk. One of the focal points of Cannes the Grand Hyatt hotel decided they were going to take matters into their own hands by hiring a Hawk trainer and his five birds to monitor events and of course take flight and scare any hapless seagulls off track.

Hawk trainer ‘Puzin’ has described how seagulls can run amok and risk ruining a stars big day: seagulls cause multiple issues at the festival. “The seagulls come to the tables, take the food and break the glasses. It’s not good for the guests,A glass of wine on their clothes, just before the red carpet, really not good! We’re here for 10 days, protecting the most prestigious guests during the festival.”

Another example of how seagulls are causing nuisance not only in the uk BUT further afield!

It seems the folk at St Ives business  have lost their patience with the growing problems caused by an ever increasing flock of seagulls that call the Seaside town their home. Visitors to the beach town this Summer will be greeted with new signage that warns of the impending threat of seagulls.

Seagulls have taken a liking to snatching food and beverages from the hands of tourists, which of course has not gone down well with the millions of visitors who flock to the renowned Town every Summer.

Read more about the new signs and the impacts its hoped they will have on lessening the impact of over zealous (and hungry) seagulls on the areas visitors here.

Bristol Council Hails ‘Fake’ Seagull Egg’s A Success

5th May 2016 By

Bristol Council is another example of how Ersatz Fake Seagull egg’s can prove to be a solid long term investment.

Historically Bristol has had few seagulls populating its City areas, however by 2010 they were reported to be an increasing number of pairs of breeding seagulls in the densely populated urban areas. 2010 saw numbers increase to around 2,495, a figure which has increasingly caused havoc amongst residence and shoppers alike in this popular City.

With warnings from experts that the seagull population could increase dramatically by up to 20% per year the Council decided to take evasive action. Since 2013 the Council have been actively using Ersatz plastic sea gull eggs to decrease the population. By simply replacing the egg with an artificial one the Council claim they have been able to halt the progression in breeding numbers.

Latest stats show how successful the campaign has been, with the most recent figures indicating a seagull population of 2,367 breeding pairs. The council replace around 1000 eggs per year and are expecting numbers to continue to decrease.

Dublin Beach’s Water Quality Drops- Sea gull droppings to blame

5th May 2016 By

Seagull’s have been receiving negative press in Dublin recently due to a popular beach having contaminated and poor quality water levels

Ersatz provide fake sea gull eggsMerrion Strand Beach, just south of the Irish Capital has long been regarded as a tourist hotspot, but new claims by Ireland’s Environmental protection agency lay the blame with seagulls for the recent decline in water quality. An increase in seagull droppings that have caused the water to become overly contaminated could apparently have been a significant factor in the poor water quality. Pete Webster a respected Senior Scientist at the EPA has the following to say about the water quality: “We have a possible combination of impacts from surface waters but also from an increasing number of seagull droppings on a daily basis,” he told Newstalk Radio following the release of the agency’s annual report into bathing water quality on Tuesday. “Seagull poo has 10 times more bacteria than human poo.seagullsnest1

Once again this example shows how uncontrolled sea gull breeding can cause havoc in populated tourist areas where breeding management programmes have not been put in place. Check out our supply of Plastic Seagull eggs now and find a simple and humane solution to your seagull population control problem.

Seagull Breeding Control Issues Rife In France

4th May 2016 By

A quick read online shows that its not just the UK thats urban areas are suffering from the impact of having too many seagulls in their areas.

This article from French news outlet connexionfrance highlights the plight faced by many Towns in France.

APRIL signals the start of the seagull breeding season – and the annual campaign in many French seaside resorts to control their numbers.

With the birds becoming increasingly aggressive, an increasing number of resorts, including Nice, are turning to sterilisation in a bid to stop the problem becoming worse.

In the Gard resort of Grau-du-Roi, the annual sterilisation programme to control black-back gull numbers has been going on for 20 years, France 3 reports.

Black-back gulls are the largest member of the gull family. Residents in Grau-du-Roi say the birds regularly go through refuse and prey on small animals – including pets.

The birds are a protected species, but individual prefectures can authorise methods of population control. In Grau-du-Roi, the process has not changed in two decades. Eggs are coated in mineral oil to prevent the chicks inside from hatching, Thierry Galibert told the broadcaster.

He said that this method is more successful than removing the eggs from nests, as that would prompt female gulls to lay more eggs within a fortnight.

Every year, about 800 eggs are treated in the town – at a cost to the taxpayer of €15,000.

A quick calculation shows that like many UK Councils this French one would make some substantial long term savings if they switched to Ersatz imitation sea gull eggs.
